UB-DM020IR Infrared USB Microscope

Inks that look identical under white light separate cleanly under infrared. The DM020IR puts 8 IR LEDs and a sensitive CMOS sensor into a USB stick-style instrument — a practical tool for document examination, trace evidence and conservation work.

Overview

See what white light was hiding

Different inks absorb and reflect infrared differently — which is why an alteration invisible to the eye can be obvious in an IR capture. The DM020IR surrounds the sample with even IR illumination while the sensor handles the spectrum natively, no filters to swap and no darkroom ritual.

Because it is USB bus-powered, it moves between desks, evidence rooms and conservation benches without an external supply. Examiners typically run it alongside a standard visible-light scope — the DM020IR answers "what changed", the visible unit documents "what is there".

  • Ink differentiation — same-appearing inks separate by IR absorption signature
  • Subsurface detail — under-drawn sketch lines, faded marks and residual impressions gain contrast
  • Chain-of-custody friendly — captures save with timestamps into your existing documentation flow
  • No consumables — LED illumination rated for tens of thousands of hours

FAQ

DM020IR — common questions

Can it also capture normal visible-light images?

The sensor responds to visible light as well, but the IR LED array dominates illumination. For paired visible/IR workflows, most labs combine the DM020IR with a standard model like the DM050U — or ask us about a dual-illumination build for volume programmes.

Do you offer other wavelengths?

LED wavelength selection is a firmware-and-BOM configuration we handle for volume projects. Describe the examination problem and we will confirm what is achievable before quoting.

Is output admissible as evidence?

The instrument produces calibrated image files with timestamps; admissibility depends on your jurisdiction's procedures and examiner testimony. We supply the documentation labs need for their validation files.
